About the city
Eze is a town in the Alpes-Maritimes department and the Provence region in southeastern France, not far from the town of Nice. The town is rather small, only surfacing 9 km2 and having a population of just 2500 inhabitants.
City areas
The most popular area with tourists is the beach. Situated on the French Riviera, the town’s beach is a marvelous “ocean” of soft golden sand set on the Mediterranean shore. In summer the water is nice and warm, perfect for a little dip.
Attractions
Due to its location on the Riviera the town of Eze is more about nature and its splendors than the architecture or the history. The town’s main attraction is the botanical garden, which is the home of many species of exotic plants, especially cactus.
Transportation
The “road” to Eze is quite easy and fast. The town is only 11 km away from Nice, making it quite accessible to frequent fliers. There is also a train and even a bus that go directly to Nice.
Restaurnats & Nightlife
Due to its small size Eze is not much of a town for dining out. There are few restaurants around, but as it goes, fewer restaurants sometimes mean a greater quality. It so happens that Eze fits the pattern exactly.
History & Civilization
The area surrounding Eze was first populated around 2000BC as a commune situated near Mount Bastide. The area was subsequently occupied by not only the Romans but also the Moors who held the area for approximately 80 years until they were driven out by William of Provence in 973.
The exotic paradise of Eze
The botanical garden of Eze is one of the most beautiful collections of exotic plants in France. It houses over 20 species of exotic plants from allover the world. The garden has a spectacular vantage point from where you have direct views to Italy, down onto the bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer, the Baies des Anges in Nice, the landing strip of Nice airport and even across to St Tropez.
